Webcam troubleshooting...

...okay so i've had this compy and have used it for a month or so now and with all the searching through programs and crap I STILL can't figure out how to use the damn webcam to just take pics >.< It's annoying...the only time i've been able to use it is on yahoo messenger or myspace but i want to just take random pics with it offline...any suggestions?
